The purpose-built Army Welfare Service Centre in Aldershot was opened in February 2010.
The centre combines three functions: It houses the Army Welfare Service offices and meeting rooms, it provides community facilities such as a function room, a kitchen area and is home to ‘Toye Box’, the Army’s own early years day care amenity and creche.
The Army Welfare Service reaches out way beyond the immediate garrison town as it covers the 11 Brigade East area which includes Aldershot, Keogh, Minley, Arborfield and Sandhurst. That means it has responsibility for some 26,000 personnel and family across much of southern Britain.
Working closely with various service charities such as The Soldiers Charity, Soldier Sailor Airman and Families Association and the Royal British Legion, the Army Welfare Service provide support to soldiers and their families some of whom may either be serving in Afghanistan or returned injured.
The seven Army Welfare Workers based at Maurice Toye House can expect to have numerous cases to deal with at any one time. These could be anything from refitting a service quarter to accommodating a disabled child or to providing counselling for families traumatised by the effects of operational deployment.
Maurice Toye House can be found in Middle Hill, just behind the Aldershot Centre for Health.
